Japan Jazz Nights featuring Misaki Umei & Tenors in Chaos (Double Bill)

Co-presented by The Japan Foundation, celebrating 50 Years of Australia-Japan friendship. Japan Jazz Nights brings together two of the most exciting forces in contemporary Japanese jazz for an unforgettable evening of creativity, virtuosity and cultural exchange.

Misaki Umei, one of Japan’s most compelling emerging artists. Recently named one of Rolling Stone Japan’s “Future of Music” artists, the pianist, composer and multi-genre innovator is redefining the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Blending dazzling technique, adventurous composition and influences spanning classical, jazz and experimental music, Umei represents the next generation of Japanese musical creativity.

Tenors in Chaos, a powerhouse ensemble featuring three of Japan’s most acclaimed tenor saxophonists - Akihiro Nishiguchi, Tomoaki Baba and Yu Kuga. Renowned for their explosive energy, rich musical interplay and genre-defying sound, the group has rapidly become one of Japan’s most talked-about jazz acts, selling out prestigious venues and captivating audiences across the country. Backed by an elite rhythm section and joined by a local pianist Tim Voutas, Tenors in Chaos delivers a thrilling performance that is as sophisticated as it is exhilarating.

A celebration of friendship, collaboration and artistic innovation, Japan Jazz Nights showcases the vibrant future of Japanese jazz while building new musical connections between Japan and Australia.
